Chaos

Cheng Kwun Ho, Eric

The inspiration for this outfit derives from an encounter with a beggar on the street. At that time, I noticed that he was wearing multiple layers of clothing, including garments for different seasons. He also had a lot of jewelry, such as bracelets, necklaces, and headpieces. As he traversed the street, I noticed onlookers casting curious glances. Rather than perceiving him as dirty or disheveled, I felt that his clothes emphasized his attitude towards life. I believe these clothes were probably all his belongings, which led me to the concept of creating this garment: poverty and wealth. To start, I used some discarded denim and canvas fabric. I cut them into pieces and added lace to the clothes to give them an elegant touch. Drawing inspiration from the beggar's accessories, I embellished the garment with pearls and beads, lending it depth and aesthetic appeal. For the pants, I used two discarded pairs of jeans and patched them together. I deliberately created worn-out areas by using a grinding machine to accentuate the sense of decay and traces of prior use. Along the sides of the jeans, I hand-threaded beads to enhance their visual appeal.
